Myka 9 - A Work In Progress

To speak honestly, it was hard for meeee to like that album for a very long time. It has solid beats but on some tracks I would have expected Myka to be more serious and more skilled like he used to be on It's All Love. Some tracks stand out from the average but then there is for example a track that is called "This ain't the shit". I think that it must have been the reason why I always underestimated this album but I'm happy that I haven't sold it! Besides some tracks its really a hidden treasure and a nice treat for fans of Myka. Be sure to peep The THIRDMAN's Blog where you can find the vinyl version with selected tracks from this album that was released by 247 records from Sweden.

Rules Of The Game

Sacred Hoop - Retired

I can remember having copied this extended EP or album, no matter how you want to call it with its 8 tracks, from a friend from vinyl back in the day. And not long ago I was able to grab the CD and can now provide it to you. There are still copies left for sale on various platforms and I'll recommend to grab one copy, too. It's definitely a must have if you are a fan of bay-area related underground stuff.
Sacred Hoop consists of rapper Luke Sick, producer Vrse Murphy and the DJ Fondouglas who is replaced on later releases by DJ Marz. The same group organization with one MC, one producer and one DJ you can also find in the groups Third Sight and Glue to name two examples.
And what a surprise, Jihad of Third Sight appears on this album! DJ Quest and Eddie K of the Space Travelers also do.

The Real High Life EP

The dig of the week is this fine record that I traded for a Mikah 9 record and also got a Candy's 22 record for it. Straight Bored Stiff ish that contains 8 tracks while the CD version contains some more tracks.

Glue - Seconds Away

This time I will present to you a group that is not from the Bay. The name is Glue and it consists of one emcee called Adeem who won the Scribble Jam twice and who is an Anticon affiliate, DJ DQ who is taking care of some Cuts and the beat-smith Maker who also produced 3 albums (be sure to peep em!) for Qwel of Typical Cats. In general the productions of Maker apply dirty drum sounds and can be compared with productions from Blockhead, Joe Beats, ANT, Alias and Void Pedal. Some of them beats also contain a note that is typical for the Bay like on the track "Mixing Excuses" were Neila could have hook up with Adeem! If you aren't familiar with Glue you should definitely check their music...

Foreign Legion

In my opinion this is one of the top hip-hop albums out. DJ Design created pure heat with his banging beats where its unavoidable to shake to your head to. Besides DJ Design, Foreign Legion consists of Prozack Turner and Marc Stretch.

Shape Shifters - Circuit City

This 12" record is the only one off the album "Was Here" from the Shape Shifters. It was released in 2004 and contains 3 tracks on the A-Side plus its instrumentals on the B-Side. Every track has its own flavor as each was produced by a different producer. 'Circuit City' has a taste of Electro-Funk and is produced by Andre Afram Asmar. On 'We R The Dinosaur' you have a typical Shape Shifters style of beat that could also have been on the Know Future or the Adopted By Aliens album. LA Jae took care of the production on this track btw. 'Run The Crowd' was produced by LifeRexall and has a straight forward boom-bap beat.
Like the tracks have different beat styles they also cover different themes. Check them!

Naptron Selecta

Thanks to Jack Devo over at Beetbak this selection is not lost! In the following weeks I will also try to take care of the stuff that isn't up anymore. If you have some wishes you can hit me up under the email to your right.
You can also expect another selection of tracks of a group that I don't want to mention for now. But I hope and think that you guys might like it. See ya till then and in the following is the text to the original post to Naptron Selecta:

I put together some tracks from Naptron that weren't posted up for now. Containing approx. 40minutes on 8 tracks you will find 3 tracks that you might already know but the other 5 might be new to you. That's no wonder, some are unreleased, as long as I know.
But hold tight! Most of the tracks are real bangers! Persons who also appear are Otherwize, Rockin' Squat, Pyroman, Medusa, P.E.A.C.E. and Mama Moon.

Graffiti Kings

Today I will throw in another fine compilation. Again a bunch of dope artists appear on it as you can see in the tags list below. The DicoGs entry states appearances of Abstract Rude and Pete Rock which is not correct! But Pete Rock did one beat for Spinderella of Salt'n'Pepa and Suga B from Urban Prop. Pretty nice combo btw! Other pearls are Awol One's track called "Life" with its sluggish beat, Swollen Member's "Deep End" and ?

Tags Of The Times III

Hello, today I wanted to listen to this fine compilation again that I haven't heard in years and  I thought by myself: "Why not sharing it with the other guys?". I can remember buying the CD on a trip to Paris, mais oui!
Again there are so much artists on this release that all their names can't make it into the tags list :(

Fat Hed - Night Train To Babble On

Not long ago I provided a link to Fat Hed's Bandcamp page where you can get a part of this album for free. Now that I got the CD I can provide the whole album. Besides Fat Hed there also appear Awol One, Motion Man, Nocando and some other guys. Production is done by Nocturnal Ron, Fred C and also Kut Masta Kurt. Be sure to check him out. Fat Hed has a cool voice and some funny raps.

The Anonymous - Swells Of Abstract

Released originally in 1995 under the group name Vertigo, The Anonymous re-released this album in 2006. DiscoG's says that there are four additional tracks on this release. To meeee it is their best effort compared to Weep No More and Green & Gold. The overall flow is tighter and it is less mellow compared to WNM.

The Anonymous - Green & Gold

Today there is the CD version of the Green & Gold EP that was also released on vinyl but with less tracks. The group is called The Anonymous before that their name was Moonshine and before that it was Vertigo. Under the name Moonshine they released the album "Weep No More" plus two 12"es off it. As Vertigo they released the album "Swells of Abstract" that is available as digital download but I don't know if there really was a physical release in 1995 or something. The members of the group are DJ Drez, Zinndeadly, Able Body and Vesuvio who changed his name to Manifest. Since this release they didn't release any new music together cause what I heard was that they live in different cities now. What a shame!

Omid - Distant Drummer

This is Omid's first release after the Beneath The Surface with a totally different approach. Most headz  were skeptical about it but all I can say again is that it is different. It is like Amon Tobin's "Bricolage" were at a first listen you might think "Oh, that's a chaos". But if you listen to it more often you can discover ordered soundscapes some of them are more abstract and some are not. The track "Ways Of The World" is the instrumental of the track "Atlas" from Jizzm's "Archives"  with Nikko singing over it a lil bit. All other tracks are instrumentals. Very interesting is the video animation below to the track "Musical Chairs" and the fact that an italian dance crew performed to tracks from this album and to tracks he made later on.
The video is down :(

Radioinactive & The Pyramidi All-Stars 2002 live in Berlin

A good friend gave meeee a nice recording of a concert that happened in 2002 in Berlin. It was a pretty good show. The Artists who appeared were Radioinactive with Anti MC and Clouddead( Dose One, Odd Nosdam and Why? ). This recording only contains the performance of Radio and Anti MC lasting approx 30 minutes. It was recorded with a pocket recorder so it also catched the sounds of the audience and you can get a very good impression of the atmosphere during the concert. Many thanks goes out to the submitter for this wonderful recording.

Deeskee - Focused Sonic Suicide

This is one of the rarest stuff I can offer on this blog. Actually, I got a copy of this tape from a friend about 9 years ago, I hope he is ok with meeee uploading it :) It is one of the weirdest tapes I have ever heard. If you just listen to the first track you'll surely understand what I mean. Pitifully 3 tracks are missing but there are 4 other tracks on it from the "In Loving Memory Of Deeskee" album.
Yesterday, my friend gave me his tape and I'm proud to announce that all tracks are now available her as a 1st generation dub!

Long Lost Relative - Twilight

Released in Austria, this project is a come together from musicians from the US ( Sundiata and DJ Werd ) and from Germany ( Kenji 451 and Squil ). While Sundiata provides his raps on four tracks, Werd adds some scratches together with his DJ-group the Phaderheadz on the intro track and he also produced most of the beats according to the credits list. Kenji 451 and Squil are credited as the producer duo Montags Dust.
If I get the ok I might also release an complete instrumental album from Montags Dust, soon.
Additionally, there is also an appearance of Tailan a femcee on a cool mellow track that contains a Clarinet that is played by Mezmatic. With a total of 14 tracks were 5 of them contain raps there remain 9 instrumentals.

Left & Style Misia - The Grind / Die Another Day

Recently Ghetto Tyylit and This Is For The Hustlers have posted up some really rare stuff from the Daysmen Empire. So there is also another release that I can provide with Style Misia and Left aka Amorphous who is not a Daysmen Empire member but who is from the Constylations who are the Daysmen Empire members plus New Moon aka Bash Bros. who are Piseas and Left.

Money Bazz / Cozmic Ray - New York, New York / Danger

Another release from Psycho V with Cozmic Ray from Widow Prizum and Money Bazz from the B.O.D. Click. The track "Danger" also appeared on this record here but it is like an extended version with two different parts that were produced by 2 different producers. "New York, New York" is new to meeee and it's a good one, check it out.

Neila - For Whom The Bells Crow

The last time I wrote something about Neila, I tried to encourage you to help her out by buying her LP "Only This One Counts". Since then she also released the same album on tape! Two releases earlier, Neila put out this fine CD where you can also get a 7" off it if you are lucky ;D
There is only one feature from Pigeon John on this album but what makes it so interesting is the line of producers who were involved. There is Porter from Sweden, Maki from Canada, Sakari aka Ameba from Finland, while the rest is from the US I think. Omid, Joe Dub from SFSM, Jimi The Mantis Claw, Paris Zax who produced Busdrivers "Imaginary Places", Vrse Murphy from Sacred Hoop, Deeskee and Presto. Phew... Also involved were James Morris and Wil-Dog Abers from Ozomatli who played the bass on "Make Up". "Stolen Thoughts" was performed by Monte Carlo 76.

Impressions On Concrete

Impressions On Concrete  is a project where DJ Presto brings various beat-smiths together on two vinyl records. I can remember that I once read that Omid, who also appear on this record, has pushed Presto to release his music because he liked his jazzy beatz. He not only pushed him to but also supported him and probably he also helped him to launch the label Concrete Grooves that was the home for various releases of Presto. The moment I first heard the music from Presto I liked it. He has 3 tracks on this record that are also on Presto's Inflight Instrumentals album and also on one of his 12"es. "Reminisce" is also on Akumas "Eye in the sky" album having a nice tempo of 96bpm. Omid's track "Solarism" is the instrumental of 2Mex's "Control Mexica" off the "B-Boys In Occupied Mexico" album where the track is falsely credited to be produced by Mum's The Word. To meeee it also sounds like it is produced by Omid but it could probably be produced by both. Mum's The Word also appears on this record like Fat Jack, Flaco, M Fusion, DJ Smash, Mr Montes, Khurse and Sach.

Marcy All Star$

The Prizum again....but having an interesting record here. Especially the track Crabb Niggaz that appears in two different versions on this record. One that has the same beat as the one on the "Hot Time" record from Polo and Zoundwavez aka Phoenix Orion but where only Phoenix Orion and the B.O.D. Click ( Clutch and Money Bazz) appear on. Be sure to check the other record to see the difference. The 2nd version of Crabb Niggaz is only performed by the B.O.D. Click and has a different beat that owns more of that East Coast flavour. The track "Alert The Masses" has a really tight beat and I'm a bit sad that there is no instro of it on this record. For "Ray Day" applies the same while there is also a instrumental of "I'll Get Ill" on this record that features Mr Jig. Never heard of Mr Jig before but he raps that he is also from the B.O.D. Click.

Widow P - No Champagne Just Blunts n Heineken

This is Nr 3 in the round from the Prizum offering two different tracks "No Champagne" and "Pass It Around" plus their instrumentals. The Acapella of "No Champagne" is also included. Both tracks have very tight beats and the Prizum's raps are cool, too.

Widow Prizum - Jetlag

As the cover implies, this release builds a bridge between New York and Paris.
Widow Prizum ( Cozmic Ray and Ikeia ) from NY and Assassin ( Pyroman and Rockin' Squat ) from Paris join forces on the track "Jetlag". "Scared Of Us" is brought to you by the Prizum feturing Zoundwavez aka Phoenix Orion. Last but not least Cozmic Ray and Ikeia appear on "543-21". The Acapella of Jetlag is included plus its instrumental and the instrumental of 543-21.

Freestyle Fellowhip - Hot Potato 12"

2day I have recorded this Freestyle Fellowship promo record that is the only one except the test press that contains the instrumental of Hot Potato. Hot Potato comes in 3 different vocal versions were all Fellowship members appear on. Additionally, Ganjah K has an uncredited appearance.

Request: Abstract Rude - Eyes Wide Shuttish

In September The Thirdman requested this release and thanks to Shane you can find it now here.
It is a digital only release with only 6 tracks. DiscoGs states that it is a CD release but I doubt it because I can't remember to have it seen as that.

L*Roneous - Imaginarium

Looking at the credits of this album some might think that it may be boring. But I can tell ya it isn't! Even though it is only produced by DJ Zeph and L*Roneous is the only one who rips the mic. Don't let them trick you, it's hot!

Fat Hed - What Do We Need Today? / Need Some More 12"

Fat Hed put out this small release in 2004 containing only two tracks from the album "Night Train To Babble On" plus its instrumentals. The A-side is produced by Kut Masta Kurt who you might know from the Diesel Truckers with Kool Keith or from the Masters Of Illusion where Motion Man also is a member. Motion Man also appears on "What Do We Need Today?". The B-Side is produced by Nocturnal Ron and there is also a feature of Crag Malkovich. Enjoy.

The Infidelity Project

The Infidelity Project is a 2xCD compilation with close to two and a half hours of music. Gunther B took care of alot of them beats plus some other guys. There are also alot of features of MCs I have never heard of before excluding Tommy V. First I thought that some guys might be from EX2 but I saw that some guys also appeared on the Mystery School projects some others are difficult to track down.
The music reminds a lil bit on the Anonymous Inc album with a touch of the Anticon stuff.
For more infos especially the credits please visit Discogs

Third Sight - The Golden Shower Hour

Here is something different for you folks. Third Sight consists of D-Styles, Dufunk and Jihad The Roughneck bringing you close to 60 minutes of good music. While Jihad rips the mic, D-Styles and Dufunk program the beats. Good stuff!

DK Toon Interview

My man Jack Devo over at Beetbak had the chance to get an exclusive interview with the Massmen member DK Toon. It's interesting to read and it sheds some light on another Good Life / Project Blowed member who haven't been on the radar for years. So check it out y'all

Headnodic Beats Vol 1 (Vinylrip)

It's been a long time since I put up some stuff and I'm coming with some cool beats from Headnodic this time. The record was released on Insiduous Urban Records a record label which also gave home to the early Foreign Legion releases. Headnodic might not be new everyone cause he made two beats for Myka Nyne's Citrus District album and when you have a look on DiscoG's you will see that he has produced beats for alot of cool cats like Gift Of Gab, Scarub, Mr Lif, Zion I and so on....

Request: Fat Jack - Natural Hallucinogenics

Besides the two instrumental releases, one he released with DJ D (The Message) and the other one with Mascaria (Timespan), this one was a digital only release and also features some fine MCs. St. Mark 9:23, Mikah 9 and Abstract Rude bring you the background vocals on some tracks while on some other tracks Medusa & Feline Science and also Abstract Rude lay down some verses. As the name of the album implies, the tracks are of a laid-back style and I didn't try it but I can imagine that the album is a good one when being high.

Eligh - A Story Of 2 Worlds

Just heard the new album of Eligh and I thought that I upload this fine release. It is Eligh's second album and he released it on Tape and on CD in 1997. Production is mostly handled by Eligh himself plus Elusive, Grouch and by Bizarro aka Bicasso on a very nice track called Plantlife were Bizarro also kicks some verses. Features also come from Scarub, Murs, Basik, PSC, BFAP, ASOP and Grouch.
I can remember a record store were this CD laid for some years. Everytime I went through the CDs, I thought: "Hmm, I'm not sure. Should I buy it or not?". But in the end I bought it and it was a good decision, it took long but I made it. When I hear "Fisherman's Lot" it comes to my mind and I'm feeling good. Or Congestion, or...
