Tags Of The Times III

Hello, today I wanted to listen to this fine compilation again that I haven't heard in years and  I thought by myself: "Why not sharing it with the other guys?". I can remember buying the CD on a trip to Paris, mais oui!
Again there are so much artists on this release that all their names can't make it into the tags list :(

Impressions On Concrete

Impressions On Concrete  is a project where DJ Presto brings various beat-smiths together on two vinyl records. I can remember that I once read that Omid, who also appear on this record, has pushed Presto to release his music because he liked his jazzy beatz. He not only pushed him to but also supported him and probably he also helped him to launch the label Concrete Grooves that was the home for various releases of Presto. The moment I first heard the music from Presto I liked it. He has 3 tracks on this record that are also on Presto's Inflight Instrumentals album and also on one of his 12"es. "Reminisce" is also on Akumas "Eye in the sky" album having a nice tempo of 96bpm. Omid's track "Solarism" is the instrumental of 2Mex's "Control Mexica" off the "B-Boys In Occupied Mexico" album where the track is falsely credited to be produced by Mum's The Word. To meeee it also sounds like it is produced by Omid but it could probably be produced by both. Mum's The Word also appears on this record like Fat Jack, Flaco, M Fusion, DJ Smash, Mr Montes, Khurse and Sach.

Mix by Omid with some tracks of the MC Aces

On the 19th of July 2009 Omid hosted a radio show on KXLU for 3 hours and this is the whole show in one file. It was posted up on Blunt Rapps but the link is down and the post seems to be forgotten.

The interesting thing with this mix is that it contains some tracks from the MC Aces from around 1988 as Omid says. These tracks were recorded before the Freestyle Fellowship existed as we now know it. You know Haiku D'Etats "Mike, Aaron and Eddie"? It's based on the track "Mike, Eric and Eddie", they are Mikah 9, Spoon and Aceyalone. Also there is a cool track with Acey on the hook where he is hella playful and using lines like "let's clap your hands, drop your pants and listen to what I say".
Besides the cool MC Aces stuff there are also some rare tracks from Awol One and the Nonce. Additionally, Los Undergods Mexicanos who are very deep record collectors also provide some interesting tracks.

Hello, this is Nonce again...

Some years ago we laid down some wonderful relaxed beats with keyboard sounds flying over them which built an atmosphere that stays in contrast to the hard truth that we are telling. But don't think the lyrics are unbearable! They are only miles away from the average raps, are raw and reflect the truth. It is like a good wine which needs some time, to get the point where it is coming from. We also have a hidden appearance of an MC we don't even know ourselves, maybe you can help us and find out the name of him.
Thanks for your patience and we hope you will have a positive listening experience...

Classic Material

The mysterious death of Yusef Afloat wasn't the reason that this album is a classic. No, it is the music itself! In the movie "This Is The Life" Medusa tells some really interesting stuff about Yusef. He wanted to practice Hip-Hop "raw" in that way, that he raps naked in front of the audience. For some people it might sound weird but I think that his intention was to tell the truth how life is, by laying the positive and the negative things on the line how they are. On Utube there is an old interview with Sach and Yusef were Yusef isn't saying much but what he is saying makes sense and is straight to the point. R.I.P. Yusef
