Naptron - Transmitting / Put Your Hands Up 12"

This Naptron release is getting more and more difficult to find. It was released on Funk La Planet records which is run by Benjamin Deffe. I have also posted up two other releases from FLP earlier with Phoenix Orion on them. They are part of the Alien Nation era back in the day when they resided in Brooklyn, NYC.

This record contains two different mixes of Put Your Hands Up plus an instrumental and Transmitting plus its instrumental. Transmitting features the insane freestyle king Supernatural.

Update: I ripped the record by myself this time. I think it sounds better than the version before.

E Da Boss & Jahi - The Early Edition

Last week a friend lend meeee some CD's and this EP impressed me a little bit.
The credits say that E Da Boss took care of the beats and Jahi was the one who rippped the mic.
The CD seems to be a promo only EP that has never been released. So be sure to peep it, it's hot!

Update: Naptron - Afekz Of Metatron

Naptron is a member of Alien Nation crew which had its born place in Brooklyn/NYC. On an Alien Nation 12inch there is written:
Naptron
Alias : Meta-Predator
Function : Seismic Verbalizer
"The mind is my playpen."
Can turn foes into helpless accomplices by injecting cerebro-shells into their brainstems... gives him control of their minds... has a cruel sense of humor... arms himself by having victims debase themselves. Voice modulator has ability to cause localized earth tremors.

On this album he frequently uses his dark deep- and also a midget like voice. Someone who fits perfectly to Naptron is P.E.A.C.E. who has multiple appearances as Marvin Frye while Naptron appears as Seymour Frye. Other appearances are Phoenix Orion on "Show me what you got", D.V. Alias Khrist on a Skit, Orion South on "I can see it in your eyes", Supernatural on the Intro song and "Bredren" and the Alien crew on "Omega Minus Function".
Unfortunately, the production credits aren't given but there is also a 12" test pressing out there which states that Daddy Kev and Hive took care of the production on tracks that also appear on this album. Another EP also states the same.

Update: I cut out the silence on some tracks and normalized them to the same level. It now sounds better.

Request: Neila - Vertical Trees EP

About one year before the album came out, Neila released this EP picking one track from every producer that also appeared on the album except Myk Mansun and Matth. There is also an EP only track that is produced by DJ Casey of the group Innernational. I have only added the versions that are not on the album meaning the instrumentals and the EP only track.

Neila - Vertical Trees With Eternal Leaves

This is Neila's first album that was pressed on CD. Before that she released tapes and CD-R's. There are only two guest spots on it, one from Gajah of the group Acid Reign and one from Myk Mansun who is close to Acid Reign. As you probably know Gajah you might not heard from Myk Mansun before but he is also a dope MC and Producer. Surprisingly he appears on Myka 9's album 'Souvereign Soul' that was released last month! On 'Vertical With Eternal Leaves' Myk Mansun also produced the track that he appears on. Besides him Daddy Kev, Liferexall, Matth and Omid also produced one track. Deeskee was the one, who took care of the remaining 11 beats. 1+4+11 makes 16 relaxing tracks that fit very well for the winter time.

Aceyalone - A Book Of Human Language + Beats(Re-Rip)

On the re-issue of the Instrumentals CD of this album Mumbles shared some detailed informations. He was introduced into digging records and beat making by his brother DJ Marvski and Cut Chemist and started producing in '92-'93 where he also made most of the beats for this album. Mumbles and AC went to the same school and when the rumor spread that AC is recording an album at Capitul, a friend of Mumbles handed a beat tape of Mumbles to AC and so they hooked up together. They recorded the tracks "The Greatest Show On Earth" and "Makeba" that were released on the album "All Balls Don't Bounce". Surprisingly, "Guidelines" was also recorded for the same album but they couldn't figure out the origin of the samples and the track didn't made it onto the album.
There is no info why "A Book Of Human Language" wasn't also released by Capitul but Mumbles has written that NuGruv, the label that manufactured and distributed the album, went bankrupt and in the end Mumbles and AC weren't paid properly :(

The re-release of the instrumental album btw has some different mixes and one or two tracks on it that weren't on the original album!
I have ripped the instrumentals CD again today because I have realised that I have uploaded the wrong rip the last time which had some errors. Sorry for that but now the quality is ok.

That was fast, thank you! It is a very nice track from Oddjobs. I have to dig more of them.

Nobody - Soulmates

Nobody? Soulmates! Is it weird? No, it isn't. It is very relaxing with its smooth instrumentals and just some fine vocal tracks. Was it on vinyl? Yeah, there are two different vinyl versions of it. And there is also a CD version with one extra track plus 2 EPs and one 12". Just now I'm also listening to this while Soulmates is running. Fits nicely!

Bleu Collar

Following up to the Slant Special there is also this album I have to post. Slant produced 2 tracks on it and there are also tracks on it that are produced by Eligh, Mum's The Word, Grouch and Champ of whom I haven't heard of before but DiscoG's says that he also produced one track for Rasco and one for the Cali Agents.
Bleu Collar are Basik who you might already know and Reese 1 of whom I heard that he was in Jail back in the day what could be the reason that he is relatively unknown. DiscoG's says that Reese also has a different group called King Fantastic who had two releases recently.

Record Players - Direct Drive

When I woke up today I had the song "Don't forget about the music" in my ears and at that moment I didn't know where it was on. I looked on utube but I couldn't find it there. So I had a look at DiscoG's and I found it there and was happy that I got the CD. So here it is...and don't forget: Making money but don't forget about the music!

Slant Special

Dear music-lover, I have planned this long ago and collected these tracks since then because in my opinion Slant is a dope artist. He produced dope beats in the past, was a hell of a MC and he also made some short films.
Slant, was a member of the former group Onomatopoeia together with Puzoozoo Watt and Vixxen or they are probably homies still but there hasn't been some new stuff from them for a long time.
Rumor has it that Slant quit his own music career to work as an A&R for a big player in the HipHop biz.
He was also a member of the group called Kali-9 together with Basik, Vixxen, Jizzm, Khynky Rhead and also DJ Drez I think. I'm not a 100% sure if they all belonged to the group or if they are all group members but I think that it must have been a hell of a group!
To give you some examples of how dope Slant was a producer and also as an MC I compiled 30 plus tracks into two parts letting the music speak for meeee.

Part I:
  1. Onomatopoeia Anthem
  2. Take Hold - Puzoozoo Watt, Vixxen
  3. Coming - Vixxen
  4. Twice As Hard - Vixxen
  5. Excuses - Puzoozoo Watt
  6. Disconnected - Puzoozoo Watt
  7. Muff Diving Beat #2
  8. Father Antiradio - Radioinactive
  9. Remaining Underground - Radioinactive, Subtitle
  10. Can I Get A Witness - Rifleman
  11. Evolve Or Desolve - Jizzm, Slant, Akil, Chali2na, J-Smoov
  12. (in)sense - Puzoozoo Watt, Slant, Vixxen prod. by Omid
  1. Fuck You - Slant
  2. Oompa - Puzoozoo Watt, Slant
  3. Knowledge Of Self - Jizzm
  4. Suck It Easy Remix - Jizzm
  5. Lyrics At Your Door - Jizzm, Rican Sun
  6. Pirates - Jizzm, Puzoozoo Watt

Awol One & Factor - Only Death Can Kill You

Here is another find from the second hand market. I was surprised again! You can hear Awol One on 10 tracks that were produced by Factor plus some guest appearances. Don't miss it especially the track 'Old Babies'.

Fat Jon - Wave Motion

Awol One & Daddy Kev - Killafornia

Today I went to the second hand market and to my surprise I was able to grab some nice CDs there again. Besides some stuff from Fat Jon, Jaylib, DJ Vadim and Daedalus, I found this sick CD EP from Awol & Daddy Kev for cheap.

Blackbird - Birds Eye View

While being on the second hand market last sunday, I also grab this one for 3 bucks. Nice Treat!

Joe Dub & Factor - Live In '75

Today I had some real luck, grabbing this one on a second hand market for only 3 bucks! I surely have to share it with you because I think that Joe Dub is an totally underrated MC/Producer. He only picked beats from Factor on this release, but Joe Dub proved on various other releases that he is also a dope producer.

2Mex - B-Boys In Occupied Mexico

This is my favorite 2Mex solo release to date and I'm very proud to provide this one because I once lended it to a friend and after that it had a lot of scratches on the bottom side that even my CD-Player wasn't able to play it without skips. But thanks to XLD there are no audible errors!

Omid - Summer Tour 2006

In two-thousand and six Omid went on tour, where he visited various countries, and took this CD with him to sell it to the fans. It is 14 tracks deep and solely contains instrumental tracks besides two tracks.

Myka 9 - A Work In Progress

To speak honestly, it was hard for meeee to like that album for a very long time. It has solid beats but on some tracks I would have expected Myka to be more serious and more skilled like he used to be on It's All Love. Some tracks stand out from the average but then there is for example a track that is called "This ain't the shit". I think that it must have been the reason why I always underestimated this album but I'm happy that I haven't sold it! Besides some tracks its really a hidden treasure and a nice treat for fans of Myka. Be sure to peep The THIRDMAN's Blog where you can find the vinyl version with selected tracks from this album that was released by 247 records from Sweden.

Rules Of The Game

Sacred Hoop - Retired

I can remember having copied this extended EP or album, no matter how you want to call it with its 8 tracks, from a friend from vinyl back in the day. And not long ago I was able to grab the CD and can now provide it to you. There are still copies left for sale on various platforms and I'll recommend to grab one copy, too. It's definitely a must have if you are a fan of bay-area related underground stuff.
Sacred Hoop consists of rapper Luke Sick, producer Vrse Murphy and the DJ Fondouglas who is replaced on later releases by DJ Marz. The same group organization with one MC, one producer and one DJ you can also find in the groups Third Sight and Glue to name two examples.
And what a surprise, Jihad of Third Sight appears on this album! DJ Quest and Eddie K of the Space Travelers also do.

The Real High Life EP

The dig of the week is this fine record that I traded for a Mikah 9 record and also got a Candy's 22 record for it. Straight Bored Stiff ish that contains 8 tracks while the CD version contains some more tracks.

Glue - Seconds Away

This time I will present to you a group that is not from the Bay. The name is Glue and it consists of one emcee called Adeem who won the Scribble Jam twice and who is an Anticon affiliate, DJ DQ who is taking care of some Cuts and the beat-smith Maker who also produced 3 albums (be sure to peep em!) for Qwel of Typical Cats. In general the productions of Maker apply dirty drum sounds and can be compared with productions from Blockhead, Joe Beats, ANT, Alias and Void Pedal. Some of them beats also contain a note that is typical for the Bay like on the track "Mixing Excuses" were Neila could have hook up with Adeem! If you aren't familiar with Glue you should definitely check their music...

Foreign Legion

In my opinion this is one of the top hip-hop albums out. DJ Design created pure heat with his banging beats where its unavoidable to shake to your head to. Besides DJ Design, Foreign Legion consists of Prozack Turner and Marc Stretch.

Shape Shifters - Circuit City

This 12" record is the only one off the album "Was Here" from the Shape Shifters. It was released in 2004 and contains 3 tracks on the A-Side plus its instrumentals on the B-Side. Every track has its own flavor as each was produced by a different producer. 'Circuit City' has a taste of Electro-Funk and is produced by Andre Afram Asmar. On 'We R The Dinosaur' you have a typical Shape Shifters style of beat that could also have been on the Know Future or the Adopted By Aliens album. LA Jae took care of the production on this track btw. 'Run The Crowd' was produced by LifeRexall and has a straight forward boom-bap beat.
Like the tracks have different beat styles they also cover different themes. Check them!
